Meet the Founder
As the visionary leader of Learning Lighthouse, Jean Hribar stands as a beacon of educational excellence and a fervent advocate for literacy equity. Her remarkable 34-year career is a testament to her profound impact, solidifying her reputation as a transformative educator and a master of her craft.
Jean’s extensive experience spans multiple domains, from her foundational work as a special education and elementary school teacher to her pivotal role as a middle school English instructor and Instructional Coach in the Berea City School District. This diverse background has equipped her with a holistic understanding of the educational journey, from foundational skills to advanced content.
Beyond the classroom, Jean’s influence resonates on a national scale. As an AFT National Trainer and content creator, she has shaped the professional development of countless educators. Her expertise is encapsulated in a robust portfolio of training modules covering critical topics such as Reading Comprehension Instruction, Writing across all grade levels and content areas, and Universal Design for Learning. Through these initiatives, she has empowered educators to cultivate literacy and create inclusive learning environments.
Furthermore, Jean’s commitment extends into the home, where she champions family engagement through her insightful modules on fostering literacy. Her ability to bridge the gap between school and family makes her an unparalleled force in creating a cohesive and supportive ecosystem for learning.
Jean Hribar doesn't just lead; she inspires, innovates, and elevates, leaving an indelible mark on every student, educator, and family she serves. She is, without a doubt, a luminary in the field of education.
Unlocking Potential Across Ohio
This video—produced by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT)—captures the energy and impact of some of our first-ever family literacy and educator engagement events, held across Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, and Greenon. At the time, Learning Lighthouse had not yet received 501(c)(3) status, so the event was hosted under the Ohio Federation of Teachers.
Since then, Learning Lighthouse has continued to build on this foundation—hosting similar gatherings under our new name and mission. This video offers an inspiring glimpse into our origins and the community-centered work that continues today.

We believe in the power of literacy to transform lives—and in the importance of equipping both educators and families to help every student thrive.
“A creative education has the power to catapult children into a lifetime of curiosity.”
